Yeah, I know. Obvious pick. But Kings Park earns its reputation. The Botanic Garden section near the DNA Tower has this canopy of trees that filters afternoon light in the most beautiful way. The State War Memorial precinct gives you those sweeping city views - perfect for wedding and engagement shoots where you want scale and drama.

Best time: Late afternoon, about 90 minutes before sunset. The western-facing lookouts catch golden light beautifully.

Avoid: Weekends between 10am and 2pm. Tourists everywhere and harsh overhead light. Not worth the stress.

Kevin’s tip: Walk past the main lookout to the smaller paths near Fraser Avenue. Fewer people, better backdrops, and the Lemon Scented Gums create this beautiful natural frame that I absolutely love for portraits.

2. South Perth Foreshore

This one’s a gem for city skyline shots without the crowds of Elizabeth Quay. The view from the Sir James Mitchell Park area gives you the full Perth skyline reflected in the Swan River, especially at dusk. But walk 200 metres past it, and you’ll find this quiet little section with paperbark trees leaning over the river. The light filters through those trees in a way that gives you this soft, dreamy quality - especially during the late afternoon.

6. Heirisson Island
